Pros and Cons of SEO Competitions
It would be no exaggeration to say that every year hundreds of seo contests take place around the world. They are usually sponsored by companies that would like to increase their visibility in the search engines. The company that administers the competition comes up with a made-up word that has not existed before the competition started. This guarantees that there would be 0 results turned out in Google which means that the playing field is even.
After a predetermined amount of time - usually six months after the beginning of the competition on a particular day at a particular time the made up word is being looked up pin Google and the website that comes up first wins. Simple as that. In addition the the fame the winner also gets a big cash prize. However more people to do for the fame and not for the money
Most of the times the SEO contests are country specific. It means that the made up word is in that particular language. For instance for the SEO competition going on now in Bulgaria the made up word is which is (laptops) read backwards. So in the end of March whoever is first in Google.bg upon typing the word in Google wins.
However there are SEO competitions when the word is in English. In cases like this it means that the whole world is taking part. These are definitely very competitive contests and people to increase their chances of winning team up and the winning tema divides the prize among its members.
As I mentioned before even though the cash prize is big people do it mostly because of the fame that comes with it. However both things are inter related. The members of the winning team are contacted by companies that need that type of service.
Most of the people feel that they can't win such a competitive contest and don't even participate. Opposite to them I think that no matter how good they are in the art of SEO everyone needs to participate. There are so many tricks that can be leanrned in such a competition for a relatively short amount of time.
I can give myself as example. I signed up for the third Bulgarian SEO competition. It started about months and a half ago and I have learnt so many things that under normal circumstances it would have taken me months to learn. I am not sure that I will win but even if I don't I would never regret I decided to participate.
